Ligamentum Arteriosum
The Ligamentum anteriosum is a fibrous ligament located in the thoracic cavity. It connects the anterior surface of the trachea to the posterior surface of the sternum. Composed of dense connective tissue, it holds the trachea in position, enabling it to remain stable during respiratory movements. The Ligamentum anteriosum also protects the surrounding blood vessels and nerves. It is essential to ensure adequate airflow to the lungs and prevent compression or damage to adjacent structures. In adults, it is generally more visible due to its greater tissue density.
