Online first aid courses

Kentucky adopts the federal OSHA rule (29 CFR 1910.151(b)) by reference through 803 KAR 2:308 under the Kentucky OSH Act (KRS Chapter 338): no fixed ratio, but absent a nearby clinic an adequately trained first-aider must be reachable within OSHA's 3-to-4-minute (high-hazard) to 15-minute (low-hazard) response window. Enforcement rests with the Kentucky Occupational Safety and Health Program (KY OSH) in the Labor Cabinet.

Kentucky child care regulations (922 KAR 2:120 Section 7(8) and 922 KAR 2:090 Section 11), enforced by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services' Division of Child Care, require every staff member to be trained in first aid and CPR, with at least one person holding current age-appropriate infant and child CPR and first aid certification on duty whenever children are present. Online courses are accepted.

Kentucky's Good Samaritan Act (KRS § 411.148) grants civil immunity to physicians, licensed emergency responders, and anyone who gratuitously renders emergency care at the scene, except for gross negligence or willful or wanton misconduct, with no legal duty to rescue. A separate statute, KRS § 311.668, protects good-faith, uncompensated AED use.

Nurses in Kentucky, overseen by the Kentucky Board of Nursing under the Nurse Practice Act, must complete 14 approved contact hours per year (or 7 hours plus a satisfactory employment evaluation), and CPR/AED, ACLS, PALS or NRP hours can count toward that total when done through a Kentucky-approved provider. BLS is in practice an employer/hospital credential rather than a licence condition, and clinical certifications alone cannot satisfy the entire CE requirement.

Kentucky assisted living regulations require at least one on-site staff person certified in CPR and first aid at all times so a trained responder is always present for adult and senior residents. A recognized, up-to-date certificate meets the standard, in addition to occupational training, and must be renewed periodically.

Under 922 KAR 1:495, Kentucky foster and adoptive parent applicants must complete first-aid training as part of pre-service and ongoing training, and current first-aid certification documentation may satisfy it. Those caring for children with medical complexity must hold current infant, child and adult CPR and first aid certification, administered by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.

Online CPR and first aid training is recognized in Kentucky for personal, childcare licensing, and employer purposes, with no explicit ban for the workplace requirement, though OSHA recommends a hands-on skills-demonstration component especially for CPR. Certification is valid for 2 years.
